The start of our Finike adventure

The start of our Finike adventure

Sunday 24th July...
Linda - I thought Day 1 of our Finike adventure would begin with a lie in. Seems our body clocks had other ideas and we were up before 7am as usual. Once we had rallied round (well, not Dean very much as he has an ear infection and was feeling down in the dumps) we had a little local stroll. The weather is so hot which makes you not want to go very far anyway. So we stopped off for a fresh orange juice, did a bit of essential food shopping, and went back to the boat.

Quenching our thirst...we've been drinking loads of fluids

Some sort of museum place we passed

...with dressed up dummies

We seem to think this means the town is
twinned with Mosbach, Germany

Our DVD player in the TV went on the blink last night. There was only one thing for it..... remove the back and have a prod around. Strangely, that seems to have done the trick and it's working fine now 😀

There was a BBQ in the marina at 6.30pm. Dean didn't feel up to it, but I thought I should show my face and say hello. So I grabbed a glass of Rum and Coke and headed off to the BBQ for half an hour. When I got back Dean was watching his James Bond 'Spectre' DVD.

Monday 25th July...
Linda - First things first, off we went to find a pharmacy to get Dean some antibiotic ear drops. The main road runs pretty much along the seafront and over a small canal, where we saw about 5 turtles swimming around. They weren't as big as the ones we've seen out at sea, but they were still a good size, and we watched them for a short while.

After the pharmacy, we wandered a little and managed to find a photo shop where we had some biometric photos taken as we are applying to get a temporary residency card.

Along the seafront, very calm water this morning

Turtle 3....
they all look the same 😀

The canal again, further into town

The afternoons have been quite blowy so far, it's a good job really as today our thermometer under the sprayhood registered 40.5 degrees C. We have an air conditioning unit in the boat and it's been on all day long so we have a little reprieve from the outside temperature.

It's HOTTTTT

Tuesday 26th July....
Linda - I just tried to add today's photos from the camera but I don't seem to have taken any! We found a new three storey bazaar/food store. Also we searched the hardware stores for a new sack truck (our shopping trolley) but with no luck. Remember ours has dodgy wheels? We spotted a small shop selling slush outside. It was so tempting we went to buy one. Next thing we know the owner brings us two chairs and a table, and we ended up buying a kilo of plums off him too. The plums only cost 50p.

We were feeling peckish. There are so many places to eat, we chose one with a lot of locals. All the men gathered playing Rummikub! Whatever happened to Backgammon and Dominoes?. It was a good choice, we ordered a plate of salad and a plate of meatballs in gravy with potatoes, water to drink, and as much 'village' bread as we could eat..... total cost £2, yes that's two pounds. Steady on, we are in danger of enjoying ourselves.

Dean's started to work on some big projects, new solar panels, new solar panel arch, new sails along with menial but important items such as a dinghy cover to keep the sun off it. The dinghy is made of hyperlon (see I do listen to what he tells me), so it's sun resistant but still better to be safe than sorry. During the winter we deflate the dinghy and store it away, but we may go back out sailing before then so better to keep the dinghy inflated. Although we have let the paddleboard down and put it away.

Dean's feeling a bit better. Today he got the folding bikes out. We've been told that you can cycle for miles along the seafront here. Really looking forward to that.

Wednesday 27th July...
Linda -  One thing that I've found in Turkey that tickles me, is the way some words are spelt exactly as the way we Brits would pronounce it. For example, today in the shops I found Lasagne sheets..... spelt LAZANYA 😀. Another word that comes to mind is TAKSI, instead of Taxi.

L A Z A N Y A 😀

At the shops we treated ourselves to a new toaster, and Dean ordered a case of his Efes beer (in a can 33ml to be precise!). He likes that size, it's just enough for him. Nearly everywhere only sells the bigger 50ml cans, or 33ml bottles. But he doesn't like bottles, it has to be cans. You know he knows what he wants. Struggling to find his dark rum though, but they do have Bowmore which is amazing, and pricey too I expect.

Today's jobs for Dean...

1. Try to locate and pin down the stainless steel man (virtually impossible) re the new solar panel fixings.

2. Buy a wooden broom handle and use it to roll up the sprayhood centre opening neatly. (It kept drooping before and getting damaged),

3. Buy and affix new brackets to the bimini frame where it fastens to the floor. It's always been a little wobbly so it needed strengthening if we are to attach fixed solar panels to it (I helped with this job, holding a screwdriver).

4. Prop up the headlining in the aft cabin with some conduit strips. The headlining has always been a nightmare, falling down all the time. And today he had to take it down on purpose to get at the bimini fixings.

5. Wash and soften some of the lines (nornally a winter job)

6. Take the seat covers to the laundry lady in the marina. It's a pain getting them back on again.

Flashy new toaster.
Guess what's for breakfast tomorrow?

Today's high temperature under the sprayhood was 41.7 degrees. And we also saw a BIG turtle in the marina, we guessed he was about 1 metre long. Yikes!

Thursday 28th July...
Linda - I don't have much to write about at the moment, apart from the fact the local liqour shop has now told us that they can't get Dean's Efes small cans 33ml of beer as the company don't have any in fact.

I'm going to start doing a weekly blog from now on. As usual when we are in a marina (usually in winter) the days are all similar. So look out for the weekly blog, I think I shall write it on a Thursday night. Ta Ta for now, and thanks for being such great Thesee Followers again 💙 xx

  1. OK, I've just caught up and realize that today is Thursday, so tonight you will be planning to write some more about your adventures. Just to say that our temperatures (southern Spain are supposed to be 33/34 degrees but officially "feel like" 36./37 degrees. There's no let-up for the foreseeable!!!! Love Von xxx
