6 Weeks and Counting

Saturday 17th March…  The time is flying by so quickly, and it’s only just over 6 weeks until our departure to the promised land, or somewhere like that. Dean has sold the last of the old batteries and we dropped them off en-route to Gosport this morning.

It’s really cold here today with a strong north easterly wind… Do I always talk about the weather? It’s a British tradition isn’t it? At the marina there was a Cornish Crabber 26 alongside the inner pontoon and it was rocking around like an upturned pendulum… yes, I like that word, pendulum. On Thesee it was 5.9 degrees centigrade, brrrr and five hours later with the heater on we had just about reached 13.9 degrees, still brrrrr.

Dean was busy fitting the new Sterling Battery Charger (we’ve given up on the old one now). I don’t know how he does all these things… head underneath the navigation table seat for hours reaching into unknown places, crimping wires and fancy connectors in a ridiculously cramped space. The only crimpers Linda ever came across were to make her hair frizzy back in the 80’s. Well we’re pleased to announce that all is good and the charger is doing what it’s supposed to.

Crimped and ready to go

The new battery charger, almost in situ

Dean has researched and subsequently programmed a custom setting of 14.4v charge reducing to 13.4v float mode, after absorbtion. Amazingly Linda does kind of understand what’s going on. She was busy with her own wiring issues labelling the camera cables! … along with cuddling and keeping Saffy warm… ok so it was the other way around.

We like things neat and tidy

I'm old enough to sit by the heater wearing a blanky

The fenders were drumming out a rhythm for hours on the side of the boat. Linda said it reminded her of a track from Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark side of the moon’.

Sunday 18th March... What's going on? This morning was the first time we've seen Thesee covered in snow. We had to get some photos before Dean and Saffy left their footprints along the pontoons. At one point today we were actually watching the snowflakes travelling sideways.

First snowy view

No footsteps here...yet

Bless.... Dean's homely addition

New hobby??

Dean spent some time checking the new seacock parts to make sure they were OK, then he put the spare heads pump away for safe keeping and had a bit of a tidy up. Linda was still trying to fathom out how to transfer her calendar from her old broken phone to the new one. This afternoon we were celebrating when someone finally bid on Dean's top-down furler on ebay..... 6 days to go yet too!

Saffy was still keen to go for her twice daily walks, even though she got blown about a bit on Forton Bridge. Dean keeps dreaming of being in 40 degrees tropics. Linda's added a hot water bottle to the shopping list.

Monday 19th March…   It’s still cold, icy, and windy. Not much happening to tell of today. We did go to the local shops this afternoon to stock up on heavy food and drink items, water, milk, pop, juice etc. Dean tried to buy a circular rope cleaning brush from Arthur’s Chandlery but none in stock. Will try Force 4 tomorrow on way home. Most of the afternoon and evening was spent trying to do a daily update on our new Navionics card, but the internet connection was terrible and it took over 3 hours and then only half of the update was done. Well this is our last full weekend here, next visit we shall be heading over to Cowes for the lift out.

No more snow and cold now please x

  1. The adventure of warm seas, sandy beaches and shorts like the postman wears is getting close, very close. Just like his Dad Dean is so organised and military ready for the Mediterranean adventure. Linda you are so organised too. A hot water bottle maybe an ice bucket for your future. Am I jealous- too right xx

  2. Hi Wendy, great idea about the ice cold water bottle, even Dean didn’t think of that one. You too will be looking forward to adventures on the water this year, and we can’t wait to hear all about the beautiful English waterways x
